Join Brooke Jamrozik of Beauty & Essex for a food demo that discusses the evolution of bar food and where the trends of bar food are now present. In past decades most customers would go to a bar, order their regular and maybe snack on some salty peanuts or crunchy potato chips. With the innovation of new technology, equipment and ingredients, the bar food scene has become more sophisticated in past years. Although there will always be new trends in the food industry, it is important not to forget about the basics: sometimes old is new. Learn how to modify an old basic recipe or idea and generate it into a new and improved alternative by using tools such as seasonality, ingredient selection, and location.

The goal of zero defects is admirable but unattainable. Even the organizations that are best at delivering service to their guests aren’t perfect. They invest significant time and resources into making sure that when they fall short, they make it right – they recover. In this dynamic and informative session, Professor Brian Warrener of Johnson & Wales University will discuss the inevitability of customer service failures, the costs associated with these failures and the many benefits of fixing them. Participants will be introduced to the best service recovery practices used by the best organizations and take away a training program that can be simply and immediately implemented in their own operations.

Recipe costing cards are an often-overlooked necessity in independent restaurants because they take a lot of time to complete and need to be updated on a regular basis. Many restaurant owners and chefs are too overwhelmed to create them, much less maintain them. But recipe costing cards are the most important system for any restaurant to have in place. In this session, David Scott Peters, founder of TheRestaurantExpert.com, will address why recipe costing is vital to a restaurant’s success and survival and how to use it to maximize profits.

Don't compromise. Now more than ever bar patrons are expecting a certain level of quality with every cocktail they're served. With this in mind, it's up to the bartender to create exciting new drink options with fresh ingredients and fun concepts. Come join Johnson & Wales alumni Greg Mayer and Tommy Seto as they demo different cocktails based on the trends of both the corporate and private sectors of the business, and help you create the best possible cocktail list for your establishment.

As social media continues to grow, it plays an even larger role in how customers are discovering and interacting with businesses. Monitoring your business on these networks is a must, but it’s also becoming increasingly important to regularly produce high-quality content in order to be discovered online. Seven out of the top eight factors for showing up in an organic search online rely on social media indicators (likes, fan base, etc.) By learning best practices, you can improve customer acquisition, increase revenue and drive customer satisfaction and retention.
